Transceiver recycling means giving responsible disposal to optical modules out of service: sorting them, recovering their usable materials and, when their condition allows it, refurbishing them to return to service. What is recovered from a transceiver
An SFP, SFP+ or QSFP transceiver is not ordinary waste: it holds recoverable metals such as gold and copper in its contacts and boards, plus optical components and technical plastics. Recovering these materials keeps them out of landfill and reduces the demand for new raw material. That is why SFP module recycling has environmental value and, in many cases, residual value.
Responsible disposal process
The process follows ordered, traceable stages:
- Coordinated collection. We arrange pickup through reverse logistics according to location, volume and coverage.
- Secure erasure. Before refurbishing or disposing of a module we apply a secure erasure of its identification and configuration profile, so it keeps no data from the previous network.
- Disassembly and sorting. We separate the modules by condition and by material.
- Material recovery. Metals and optical components are routed to recovery; non-usable material is handled with specialized disposal partners.
End-to-end management of network e-waste
Under a single service we handle not only e-waste optical transceivers but the associated network e-waste: network equipment, routers and fiber optic cabling retired together with the optics during a refresh or a data center decommissioning. A single point of management simplifies traceability and reverse logistics when you recycle network equipment.
Traceability and compliance
Responsible disposal of electronic waste follows international reference standards such as R2, e-Stewards and ISO 14001, and an auditable reverse logistics chain. When it applies, we deliver a handling report covering the material received and the treatment performed, with traceability at every stage of the process.
Circular economy: refurbish before recycling
Not every module out of service has to be smelted. When a transceiver passes the technical evaluation, refurbishment and resale extend its useful life with compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number, and represent significant savings compared with buying new modules. Material recycling is reserved for modules that can no longer be reused.
