What we validate before dispatch

EON adapts and validates compatibility against four variables: the exact model (including the line card), firmware/OS (IOS, IOS-XE or NX-OS), port and optical part number. On Catalyst platforms running IOS-XE some ports require the service unsupported-transceiver command to avoid the err-disabled state; we account for it by model and release. DOM/DDM monitoring keeps reporting power and temperature on the port, which is useful for link diagnostics.

Frequently asked questions — Cisco compatibility

Does a compatible transceiver come up on a Cisco Catalyst 9300/9200 without running 'service unsupported-transceiver', or does the port go err-disabled?

It depends on the model and the IOS-XE release. On many Catalyst 9300/9200 ports the compatible module links directly once compatibility has been validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number; on certain releases the port requires the 'service unsupported-transceiver' command to avoid the err-disabled state. EON accounts for that behavior by model and firmware before dispatch.

Which transceivers are compatible with Cisco Meraki (MS/MR), and why do they require the MA-SFP-* code instead of the standard GLC/SFP-10G PIDs?

Cisco Meraki (MS/MR) identifies optics by the MA-SFP-* part number family, which differs from the GLC or SFP-10G PIDs used by Catalyst and Nexus. For a Meraki compatible SFP we therefore adapt and validate compatibility against the MA-SFP-* part number and the specific model, not against the standard PID of other families.

How do I check in the official Cisco TMG matrix (tmgmatrix.cisco.com) which SFP/SFP+/QSFP my model and line card support before buying a compatible one?

Does coding a compatible module as GLC-SX-MMD or SFP-10G-SR affect TAC support, the equipment warranty or DOM monitoring on Cisco?

The compatible module presents the Cisco PID (for example GLC-SX-MMD) so the platform identifies it by part number, and DOM/DDM monitoring keeps reporting power and temperature on the port; we do not modify the firmware or the warranty of the network equipment.
