What is transceiver recoding for Huawei?
Huawei’s VRP operating system checks the transceiver’s identification information (vendor name and part number) before enabling the port. That is why the same SFP can be accepted on one model or firmware release and rejected on another. Recoding means adapting and validating the compatibility of the module so the Huawei platform accepts it as a compatible module while keeping its optical performance. It is not the same as buying “original” or “generic compatible” modules: the goal is significant savings with interoperability and equivalent performance, validated on the real platform.
What we validate
- Model of the Huawei equipment specified by the customer.
- Firmware / OS release (VRP) in use, because it determines which modules the port accepts.
- Port and form factor (SFP 1G, SFP+ 10G, QSFP+/QSFP28 40G/100G).
- Optical part number (wavelength, reach, fiber type).
Typical port states without recoding
When the module has not been adapted, it is common to see the link or port Down, the LED on but no link, or “module not identified / not compatible” alarms and warnings when querying the transceiver status: the Huawei VRP unsupported transceiver scenario. After we adapt and validate compatibility, the port is operational in the Up state.
