HPE Aruba SFP compatibility matrix by model

This page is the quick lookup reference by model: locate your HPE Aruba network platform, cross it with the port form factor and get the equivalent optical part number for an HP compatible SFP or SFP+. If you need the step-by-step procedure (CLI enablement and commands by generation), see the transceiver recoding service.

EON Technology validates HPE Aruba transceiver compatibility by model, firmware, port and optical part number. We do not modify the equipment: we adapt and validate the module’s compatibility for the target platform, following a multivendor approach.

Form factors and optics (column axis)

Each column corresponds to a speed and a form factor: SFP 1G (1000BASE-T/SX/LX), SFP+ 10G (10GBASE-SR/LR/T), SFP28 25G, QSFP+ 40G, QSFP28 100G and QSFP-DD 400G. The cell defines the module’s optics: BASE type, wavelength (850 / 1310 / 1550 nm), reach, fiber (MMF OM3/OM4 or SMF) and connector (LC, RJ45 or MPO).

OEM equivalence by part number (SKU)

We map the HPE SKU to the EON part number while preserving BASE type, wavelength, reach and connector, with significant savings versus the OEM SKU:

  • J-code (ProCurve): J4858D, J9150D (SFP+ SR), J9151E (SFP+ LR), J9054D → equivalent EON part number.
  • JL/P-code (Aruba CX): P06149-B21, P08421-B21 → equivalent EON part number.

You can query by SKU or by model; both paths resolve to the same matrix row.

Enablement by generation

HPE ProCurve enables modules globally, while ArubaOS-CX (release 10.06 or later) enables them per interface. Here we only indicate the state per platform; the exact procedure and commands are covered by the transceiver recoding service.

Direct attach DAC/AOC cables

DAC/AOC cables (0.5 / 1 / 3 / 5 / 10 m) are a category of their own for stacking and short-reach links. They are validated by model and port with the same criteria as transceivers.

What to check before ordering

Have at hand the exact model, the firmware/OS release, the target port and the optical part number (or the HPE SKU). With those four data points we confirm the correct matrix row. For the transceiver recoding service or the transceiver catalog, Typical dispatch in 48h*. EON serves Latin America and Spain from a centralized operation in Colombia. The product carries a 1- to 5-year product warranty depending on the line. The recoding work carries 90-day service coverage.

Frequently asked questions — HPE Aruba compatibility

What do I do if ArubaOS-CX rejects the transceiver or the port stays disabled?

ArubaOS-CX requires third-party modules to be enabled per interface with the 'allow-unsupported-transceiver' command (or 'transceiver-type allow all', depending on the release); without that setting the port can stay down even when the module is correct. First check the model and firmware release against the matrix row, apply the command and review the state with 'show interface transceiver'. If the platform still requires a specific identifier, the transceiver recoding service adapts and validates the module's compatibility, with 90-day service coverage under the agreed conditions.

Which compatible transceiver does the HPE Aruba 2930F (or the 6300M) use?

The Aruba 2930F accepts SFP (1G) and SFP+ (10G) modules; the Aruba CX 6300M accepts SFP+ (10G) and SFP28 (25G), with QSFP28 (100G) on the uplink ports. Find the model row in the matrix and cross it with the port form factor to get the equivalent EON part number. EON adapts and validates compatibility by model, firmware, port and optical part number.

What is the third-party equivalent of the HPE J9151D / J9150D?

J9150D is the HPE SKU for a 10GBASE-SR SFP+ (850 nm, multimode fiber) and J9151D is a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ (1310 nm, single-mode fiber). In the matrix we map each HPE SKU to the EON part number while preserving the BASE type, wavelength, reach and connector. Compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number.

What is the difference between J-code (ProCurve) and JL/P-code (Aruba CX) SKUs?

J-codes (for example J9150D) belong to the HPE ProCurve generation, while JL/P-codes (for example P06149-B21) correspond to the Aruba CX generation (ArubaOS-CX). This coding taxonomy indicates generation, form factor and enablement method, which is why the matrix can be queried both by SKU and by model.

Do third-party transceivers and DAC cables work on HPE Aruba Instant On (1930/1960)?

Aruba Instant On is a more restrictive line than ProCurve and Aruba CX, so each case is evaluated separately. We review model, firmware and port before confirming and adapting the compatibility of the module or the DAC/AOC cable. Compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number.
