Dell compatible SFP transceiver recoding for third-party modules
We adapt and validate the compatibility of third-party transceivers so they operate stably on your Dell network equipment. Instead of depending on a command or a per-port license, the module is ready so the Dell platform accepts it as a compatible module under the agreed technical conditions.
What we validate
Each module is reviewed and adapted according to four variables: equipment model, firmware/OS (SmartFabric OS10, OS9/FTOS, PowerConnect), port and optical part number. Compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number, and confirmed for your specific scenario.
Behavior by Dell firmware/OS
The port state depends on the equipment’s operating system:
- SmartFabric OS10: a module from another brand stays locked until you run
unlock third-party transceiver; from 10.5.x onward that unlock may require a license. This is the typical Dell OS10 unsupported transceiver scenario. - OS9 / FTOS (Force10): the link usually comes up, but the system flags the module as non-qualified.
- PowerConnect and N-Series: tend to reject the module or degrade the port.
After adaptation and validation, the Dell platform accepts the module as compatible and the link operates without depending on the command or the license on each device.
Typical port messages and states
Before recoding it is common to see non-qualified optics, unsupported transceiver, the qualified: false field in the port detail, a log warning when the module is inserted and the link in link down. After we adapt and validate compatibility, the port operates stably and the DDM/DOM diagnostics (optical power and temperature) read correctly.

We work on PowerSwitch S-Series (S4048-ON, S4112F-ON, S5224F-ON, S5248F-ON, S5296F-ON), Z-Series (Z9332F, Z9264F), N-Series (N3248P) and Force10 and PowerConnect equipment. Form factors covered: SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, QSFP28 and DAC/AOC cables.
Recoding versus buying “compatible” modules
Recoding adapts and validates the Dell third party SFP you already have in inventory for your Dell platform, instead of buying new modules sold as “Dell compatible” (Fluxlight, AddOn, Optcore) or relying on third-party recoding hardware such as FlexOptix. EON’s differentiator is the service on the customer’s own inventory: you reuse multivendor optics and standardize the same module across brands (Dell, Cisco, HPE) per platform.

Service coverage
EON covers the operation of the recoded module with 90-day service coverage, provided the reported conditions remain unchanged. This 90-day service coverage is separate from the physical product warranty. Keep in mind that operating with third-party modules may affect the scope of Dell/ProSupport support; that is why we validate the module and the DDM/DOM diagnostic readings before delivering it.
