We adapt and validate the compatibility of third-party transceivers so they operate stably on Extreme Networks equipment. The goal is for an SFP/SFP+/SFP28/QSFP module from another brand to integrate into your Extreme platform stably and with complete diagnostic readings, within a multivendor infrastructure. Extreme third party optics already in your inventory can be recoded instead of replaced.

What we validate before delivery

Each recoding is fitted to your actual scenario. Compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number:

  • Equipment model of the Extreme platform where the module will operate.
  • Firmware / operating system (ExtremeXOS or Switch Engine).
  • Port and its form factor (SFP 1G, SFP+ 10G, SFP28 25G, QSFP 40/100G).
  • Optical part number (wavelength, reach and fiber type).

How Extreme treats a module from another brand

Each Extreme network platform checks the transceiver’s identification according to its operating system. On ExtremeXOS and on Switch Engine (Fabric Engine / VOSS), a module from another brand may be flagged and the port may not bring up the link. The most common states we see are:

  • Port that does not bring up the link or stays “down”.
  • “Unsupported optic” or “unrecognized transceiver” notice (the typical EXOS unsupported optic state).
  • Warnings in the equipment log due to a brand mismatch.
  • Missing DDM/DOM diagnostic readings (optical power, temperature).
  • Unstable or intermittent link.
